Wedding & Event Films

Hey there! My name is Evan and I own and operate Bluejay Media. I’ve filmed countless weddings and events across Arizona and the United States. Every couple who is considering me to film their wedding are initially curious about two things: “Do we like his previous films?” and “How much will this cost?”. However, this is likely your first (and last) time hiring a wedding videographer for yourselves and there are MANY more important things to consider.

  1. We are reliable. We show up early and have never missed an event. In fact, we have rescued other events in the past when others have canceled.

  2. We genuinely care. This is not just a job to our team. We recognize that your event is likely the only time your group of guests will be together all in the same room. It’s important - and we treat it as such.

  3. We are skilled. Events are surprisingly more demanding than other categories of video. Lighting conditions can quickly change, timelines can be intense, but having the skills and knowledge to quickly adapt makes us exceptional for events!

  4. We are prepared. We are a little obsessed with having the right tool for each job and backups for when things get crazy. Our production van is filled with extra mics, cables, batteries, lighting and other equipment to ensure we are never “SOL”.

  5. We are picky. We don’t accept “good enough”. Our clients spend a lot of time, effort and money on their events which means we put all of our effort into every project from planning, to filming, to the final edits and delivery.

Bluejay Media was never meant to be a company that blends in with the others in the video industry. It was created to set new standards for what a video team can be. Let us prove it at your next event!

What Makes Us Different

Filming: And Why It Looks Like Overkill

Quality - Evan here! Filming events with heavy cinema cameras and more professional equipment might seem like overkill. The truth is, it can be! We are one of the only companies who use movie-grade cameras because the payoff when you see the final image is absolutely worth it. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to use the same lightweight cameras everyone else is using, but I am just not willing to sacrifice the quality of the footage to do so.

Quantity - We bring 3-5 cameras to every event so that the big moments have multiple angles. There are rarely do-overs for events, so having many cameras that can all capture amazing video is a must.

Style - I bring up style last because honestly we can adapt to nearly any request. But, given the choice, I lean towards styles that represent a true-to-life look with a hint of warm tones and nice contrast. It’s a style that is timeless and won’t look tacky in 10 years while keeping skin tones and other colors true.

Audio Recording: Our Secret Sauce

Hot take - videos with only music and no dialogue are boring. There I said it! But seriously, one of the reasons that video is so different than photography is that we have the power of sound. Emotional dialogue, laughing, and even sound effects like water and birds chirping will pull a viewer right into a film. We want our clients and couples to watch the videos we create in 10-20 years and feel like they are right back in those moments. The way we do that is absolutely credited to the ability to include audio paired with the right music and timing.

Personal Audio Recorders - Unless you want our cameras less than 5 feet from you at all times, a hidden microphone is our way of capturing perfect dialogue without being in intrusive. Basically, you wear a small microphone that plugs into a small recorder that can be in a pocket, strapped to your leg, waist or other. We can’t hear you throughout the day, but when we go to edit your film we can select moments where dialogue is wanted and sync it to the footage.

DJs and Soundboards - As a backup, we work with DJs and venue soundboards to record directly from their speakers.

Lighting: My Expensive Hobby

I will keep this section short and sweet. Cameras are just tools designed to capture light. Good lighting, either naturally from the sun or artificial lighting, can really elevate the image our cameras capture. For example, when I first started I would just rely on the venue and DJ to provide whatever lights they had whether it was string lights outdoors or color changing LED lights on the dance floor. When it worked it was awesome and when the lighting was bad I did my best. Then one day I just decided to spend several thousands of dollars on professional lighting equipment and H-O-L-Y M-O-L-Y was I happy to have finally made that purchase. Lights are not cheap which explains why most wedding and event videographers don’t use them. We place 2-5 stage lights around for toasts, dancing or if a room simply needs it. Once you see it, you’ll understand.

Editing: And Why I Don’t Have Time to Socialize

Turning raw footage into a captivating, polished video is where most of my time is spent. People might have me at an event for a few hours or a full day, but what many don’t realize is that an additional 20 to 40 hours is needed to edit our films. Whether it's the exchange of vows, the laughter of guests, or the touching moments shared, we carefully select and arrange the footage to create a cinematic film you will forever watch and appreciate.
